Future College Tennis Players Camp

                                 For High School Players going into Grades 9-12

 

 

       Prospective Players have many questions about college tennis.  We will help sort out the answers; go over what you should ask and what you can expect to be asked.

 

 

 

     GENERAL QUESTIONS

What is the difference between D1, D2, D3 and NAIA? How important is a tennis resume? A tennis video?

What should I look for when visiting a school? What is the difference between an official visit and an unofficial visit?

 

QUESTIONS FOR THE COACH

How often do you practice? Does the school have tutoring for athletes? How much traveling does the team do? What is your team philosophy? Do you have any indoor courts available?

 

QUESTIONS THE COACH MAY ASK YOU

What is your biggest win? What makes you a good team player? How many tournaments do you plan on playing this year? How often do you play doubles?

 

 

Bill May – SUNY Oneonta

    Bill May came to Oneonta after spending 3 years at Indiana Wesleyan Univ. where he coached the men’s team to a cumulative record of 60- 10 including a 19- 3 record in 2003.  May’s squads also had runner- up finishes at the National Christian College Athletic Assoc. Tennis National Championships in 2003 and 2004.

    May has coached nine NAIA and NCCAA All- Americans and 20 NAIA and NCCAA Scholar- Athlete All- Americans.  He served as the men’s and women’s tennis chair in the MCC and has served as the Region VIII chair since 1999.  He has guided his teams to five NAIA national championship berths and five top- 25 national rankings during his stops at Huntington and IWU.

 

Tim Smith – Marist College

    Tim is in the middle of his ninth season as Head Coach.  For his first eight years Tim has an overall record of 138- 47 (64- 5 in the MAAC Conference).  Tim was USPTA Coach of the Year - Eastern Section in 1993 and 1995.  He has brought his team to the NCAA’s 5 times.  Tim previously coached at Dutchess Community College where his teams twice finished in the top 10 nationally.

 

Cedric Gaddis – Sage College

    Gaddis has been coaching The Sage Colleges since 2007.    In   his   first   year    he  lead  his   team   to   the Skyline Conference Quarterfinals.   Prior to coming to Sage he was an assistant coach for the Men's Tennis team at Siena College from 2005- 2007.  He also has coached the Adirondack Region Boy's Scholastic tennis team in the Empire State Games.  Cedric played #2 for Nazareth College and played the Qualifier for the Buffalo Bills Open.
